A Camper Logbook by Marenne A Camper Logbook by Marenne
My godparents bought themselves a present for their birthdays: a camper. So I thought I'd make them a book in which they can log all the places the camper will go.

Its a German binding with a soft fake-leather called 'Winner' and an elastic band closure. The papers are all different; leftovers that I tore into shape. On the front is a two-layer on-lay in the shape of a compass. Only the pages on the right sides are lined.

It looks fantastic! For the compass...is the shape below the full covering of leather, or on top of it? I don't really know how onlays work so I can't quite grasp what's going on here, lol.

Thank you! :D It is a cardboard shape below the leather, with the leather pressed in shape around it... :)

Ahhh, ok, thanks! I read up on them and was going to do it on the book I was making...but then I forgot to put it on the cover and glued the book cloth on. Oops. I'll try it on the next one.

really nice.
I especially like the compass rose. One part over, one part under the circle, a really lovely detail.
Was it dífficult to form it?
I always wanted to try it out, but am scared to ruin it ^^

Thank you! :)
No it was not that difficult once I had drawn up the design. More problematic was creating a opposing pressure-carton that is slightly bigger, to press the design down with... two layers is even more margin-sensitive than one :P
Then try it on a scrap until you are confident enough? Its rewarding to see the results! :)

you could try to press it down with a folding tool (damn english, sounds wrong!)...
But I'll try it, look forward to the result! ^^

a bonefolder you mean? I found that the fake leather material is too scratch-sensitive for that... I'm still searching for a foam type that easily conforms to shapes when pressured...
Yeah, me too! I hope you'll post it up here when it's finished! :D

yes, that was the word I searched for ^^
sure, I'll try it, I even have an idea...
just have to search for some kind of fabric or something like that, that adjusts to the form...
shall I send you a linke once I've finished or will you dind it?

Thin (fake) leathers work well, also finely woven bookbinderscloth... And heavy on fiber handmade paper, if you use wet glue (like 50/50 paste and pvc).
I'm watching you so I'm sure I'll see it, thanks :)
